Two instruments were intercompared at this site for 22 months from 1993 to 1995 prior to the Antarctic deployment of one of them (see Scott Base entry). The instrument was moved to Mauna Loa in September 2015 where it underwent major changes. It returned to Mauna Kea in June 2018.
